Birthday/Graduation Party

This past Saturday our family celebrated my cousin's 22nd birthday and graduation from college over at his casa. His house, I can't even think of a word to describe how wonderful looking it is. My cousin alone picked each piece of furniture and paint color for the walls and basically designed the entire interior. Their home even has a 'bridge', if you want to call it that, but it's basically an area above the kitchen that leads to the bedrooms and could also count as a second living room/entertainment area. His home has about 3 'living areas' total. To put it in simpler terms, I am way jealous of what he lives in when he's home and not in college. I wish I hadn't forgotten my camera's memory card so I would've been able to share the greatness with you.

We got to the party a little early, so I stayed outside and waited for the group of people my age to start coming in, because at that moment, I was surrounded by parents, grandparents, and the rest of the 'middle-aged' folk. No one came for a while, so I decided to head upstairs to that bridge/living room area and watched some House by myself for a bit. Eventually 'my people' came, basically my cousins. Not all of them were able to make it, because some of them went to Birthday Bash at the Waikiki Shell which is a Hawaiian/Reggae concert held by a local radio station. I was planning to go, but family first, right?

Since I forgot my memory card at home, my pictures have been limited to what could fit in my camera's internal memory. Which isn't much with the setting I've had it at. For most of the night, my brother's girlfriend and I were playing with my nephew. He went around hiding his DSi, and we had the job of trying to find it.

We also had a little 'photo-shoot' in the striped bathroom.

I feel like I shouldn't be showing you all the toiletries he has, but I didn't want to have to deal with cropping the picture.

The last picture I was able to fit into my camera was a picture of my dad, and his brothers and sisters (my aunts and uncles).

The first boy from the left is my dad. I actually didn't know he was the oldest boy, but the second oldest. I guess I thought wrong... My youngest aunt was yet to be born, so she's not in the picture, obviously.

I really wish I remembered to bring my memory card because there was so much more I wish I documented. For one, my niece had the cutest outfit on with a matching headband, as she always does. She was also having so much fun climbing/sliding up and down the stairs. I also wish I was able to get the picture of the food. Halfway through the line I thought I grabbed what seemed like some good food, that is until I looked further down, then to my plate, seeing that I will completely run out of room eventually. My plate was pretty stacked. I'm sure I gained a couple of pounds. And last, his cake. His cake was delicious. It was a half-and-half of dobache (sp?) and chantilly.

I must never forget my memory card ever again. It will really decrease the amount of typing I have to do, and the amount of reading you have to do. And after all, pictures are worth a thousand words. Or maybe I just need an iPhone (and all of its cool photo apps) or just someone who can figure out why my blackberry camera is not working...

Music Monday: There Are Many of Us

As some kind of continuation to Friday's Featured Film, I felt that the accompanying song to the film was a great choice for Music Monday. The song, There Are Many of Us (click to listen), is one of those songs that you listen to when you need a bit of alone time, or if you need a little help sleeping. Not to say that it'll bore you, but to say it's very serene and relaxing. So grab a book, find a comfortable spot atop your bed, and play this song on repeat.

Family Movie Night: The Book of Alice

I'm sure none of you have ever heard of the movie "The Book of Alice". I'd be surprised if you did. The name kind of goes hand in hand with the two movies I've watched this past week. One, you might've figured out for yourself: Alice in Wonderland, and the second: The Book of Eli. Both very good, both very different.

Alice in Wonderland was a great film and it was what it was. A lot of CGI, which is acceptable seeing as we are in a made-up magical world. I enjoyed it, but not as much as I had thought, but still very enjoyable. I never actually read the book, so I wasn't really looking forward to any certain moments. Each actor did their job and I'd consider it a very great family movie. Family films were never really one of my favorites, unless we're talking Toy Story 3, or Up, but this was just not one of my favorites. But don't get me wrong, it was good, just not my good.

The Book of Eli, on the other hand, was more of my kind of movie. The whole storyline really got me, although a few scenes were quite obvious as to what would happen next. Denzel Washington played a great Eli, and he really portrayed his character well. I would have never thought Mila Kunis would so such a great job with her character since I've grown up watching her on That 70's show. I'll be a bit biased and say the film, overall, was very enjoyable and it really kept my eyes glued to the screen. The ending was all that I hoped for, happy. It rides on the more religious side of things, but that was no problem for me. It really has made it's way onto my list of favorites.

Both very great films, both I'd recommend. Watch Alice in Wonderland if you love made-up worlds and imagination, if you're looking for a great family flick, or if you're a fan of Johnny Depp. The Book of Eli, filled with action (blood, guns, knives), a great storyline, and Denzel Washington.

An Idea Can Transform The World: Inception

Just yesterday, a few friends and I decided to catch a matinée showing of Inception. We all had other plans later in the day, and yesterday was the only day we were all free. It worked out because we didn't have to pay the ridiculous price of a regular ticket at 10+ bucks.

The movie was all that I thought it would be and exceeded my expectations. I was on my toes the whole time, figuratively speaking. It confused me a bit, mostly because the movie went in full circle with the ending playing a continuation of the beginning. It took me until today to really figure out that you can't really figure out. They leave you hanging at the end of the movie, which I hate, but it served its purpose in the film.

When I got home, me and my dad watched our netflixed Alice in Wonderland, which messed with my head even more with Alice wondering whether she was in a dream or in reality. I'll talk more about Wonderland in my Family Movie Night post. Following the movie, I ate my leftovers from Macaroni Grill. It was just as good.

I had to head down to the Medical Building afterward to get some paperwork to get blood drawn for a Varicella Titer.

I took a nap after everything was done, it felt like a really long day, when it really wasn't that bad. Today, my mom woke me up quite early to get my blood drawn. A little bit too early, I was really cranky.

You can't really tell what part of the body this is, huh? I'm not a big fan of needles, but not to say that I completely hate them and can't care to have them near me. It's one of those things that I could care less about. It really is just a pinch and you're done.

And fin. That was my yesterday and part of today. Other than getting a needle poked into my arm, I worked on catching up with all my nursing material. I got about 5 emails today regarding next month's orientations and deadlines. The summer is slowly coming to and end!
